The Teapot Queen — Clarice Cliff and the Legacy of Playful Pottery

At Quirky Ceramics Collective, we like our teapots how we like our tea: bold, full of character, and a little bit eccentric. That’s why our Nooromason range pays homage to one of the most iconic pottery designers of the 20th century — Clarice Cliff.

Born in 1899 in Staffordshire, England (aka the pottery capital of the world), Cliff didn't just break the mould — she reimagined it entirely. In a time when delicate florals and muted tones ruled the ceramics world, Clarice went full technicolour. Her "Bizarre" range, launched in the 1920s, featured vivid colours, geometric shapes, and a fearless art deco flair that shouted individuality.

If you want to delve deeper into the legend of Clarice Cliff we highly recommend you watch the 2021 movie "The Colour Room". This biographical drama film  tells the story of Clarice Cliff, the pioneering ceramic artist, and her rise from humble beginnings to being the change in styles, colourways and designs of ceramics.

Her teapots were never just vessels — they were conversation starters, miniature sculptures with swirls, zigzags, and landscapes that looked like they leapt straight out of a dream. Today, Cliff's original works are collector’s gold — and an enduring source of inspiration.

Our Nooromason rage are reminiscent of her signature blend of playful forms and painterly patterns with the addition of an Aussie twist. Think art deco meets coastal whimsy — perfect for morning tea or a midnight brew under the stars.
